Theosophical Correspondence.
Translation from German by Robert Hutwohl[1]
Question: — How can I protect myself against the effects of black magic that has been practiced against me by malicious people for a long time?
Answer: — The practice of black magic is not at all rare, especially in Italy and other southern countries, and completely uneducated people often possess inherited magical powers. It is practiced by uneducated people out of vengeance, jealousy and the like, and often out of pure malice, but scholars also practice it as experiments “for scientific purposes,” i.e. to satisfy their curiosity. Various illnesses and even deaths as a result of such experiments have become known. Sensitive and mediumistic people are most exposed to such dangers. The best remedy against this is to strengthen higher self-awareness. Imagine that you contain a divine, magical power, and use it, through your will, to surround yourself with a protective shell. Believe firmly that in this way you will strengthen the aura that surrounds you, so that it surrounds you like a shell through which no harmful influences can penetrate! Through your faith and conviction you create such a “strong fortress” against whose walls the enemy forces will break and rebound on those who sent them out.
Amulets and the like can be useful if faith is too weak, but the right means is trust and devotion to the divine power within us. Among external aids, wearing rosemary is particularly recommended.
